Where are the Heals made?

We are proud to have all leads made right here in Melbourne. Yep, they’re more expensive because of this, but supporting local businesses is a priority for us.

What is the Heal made from?

All webbing is ribbed and spun polyester. It is exceptionally strong, durable and soft. The pads are made from sherpa material for added comfort.

Can I use this every day?

The Heal has been designed as a tool to aid in pulling behaviours, to allow you to walk your dog more without causing harm to their neck, face or chest. It has been shown to be the least aversive no-pull device on the market. Fitting it and using it correctly is critical. The Heal works best as an aid whilst learning how to walk your dog safely on a loose, relaxed lead.

What if my dog doesn’t adjust well to the Heal?

The lead was developed as a tool to reduce pulling in the least invasive way possible. It will not be right for every dog, however. We encourage all guardians to use this tool with respect, and to gain consent from their dog to wear it. A dog’s consent will be visible in their body language and behaviour when putting the Heal on and using it on a walk. It is always best to do things slowly and at the dog’s pace. Offering yummy food whilst applying the lead can help - if your dog continues to eat enthusiastically, it is a sign they are comfortable with it being fitted. If they stop eating, they have stopped consenting. Always listen to their cues. Let us know, and we will give you you money back.

My dog is a real wriggler, can he get out of this lead?

The Heal, clips onto your dog’s existing harness/collar D ring, so it depends on how effective your dog’s existing gear is. The Heal is designed with safety in mind - if the dog slips out of the Heal, when clipped to your harness/collar, the straps cannot slide through the thread-lock clip. If your dog is a particularly strong wriggler however or you are worried for any reason, you may like to use a double clip lead - One on the Heal and the other on your dog’s harness/collar D ring. It is critical that you secure the Heal to your harness with the thread lock ring provided.

What research have you done to ensure it is safe for a dog to wear?

We have conducted a pilot study with Melbourne University to assess the force on a dog when wearing the Heal, compared to other tools on the market. This included infrared sensors to assess heat as an indicator of pressure and force/load, and observations of the dog’s behaviour when wearing the Heal, compared the dog’s usual walking equipment.

We continue to work alongside professionals in the field who have dogs’ health and wellbeing at the forefront of their jobs as scientists and veterinarians.

Can I use it with a collar?

Whilst you can use it with a flat collar, we encourage you to consider using a well-fitted harness. Ultimately, the best choice is what your dog is safest in and what they are most comfortable in. For some dogs, a harness is less comfortable than a flat collar.

Can I get a refund?

We are very happy to give a full refund to any purchaser who does not like the Heal. We want to improve the lives of dogs and their humans, and if you feel this does not improve your walk for whatever reason, simply send it back. To send it back, email us at laura@laurav.com.au, and tell us why you don’t want to keep the Heal, along with your bank account details. We will promptly respond with the address for return and once received, you will get a complete refund (shipping excluded).
